Small Tomatoes
Black Cherry
Black Cherry Tomatoes are one of the only round, black cherries that still have a dark purple color. Each fruit is about one inch in diameter but they are sweet, rich, and full of flavor. These plants are very productive which makes for lots of sweet tomatoes all summer.
Gold Rush Currant
Gold Rush Currants have heavy trusses of 10 to 12 1/4 inch tomatoes per grouping. They are golden-yellow in color and are great for snacking right off the vine.
Red Fig
These 1 1/2 inch Pear shaped tomatoes were used as a fig substitude years ago. Red Figs were first noted in 1850 by the David Landreth seed house in Philidelphia.
Medium Tomatoes
Moonglow
Moonglow tomatoes are 6-8 ounce bright orange globes with solid flesh and very few seeds. They have a mildly sweet flavor and brighten tomato salads. These productive plants appear able to hold blight at bay.
Oma's Pink
Oma's Pink are on the larger side, more of a beefsteak at 1/2 to 1 pound. They have a moderately sweet flavor and are borne singly or in pairs. This variety is from Ohio in 1943, matures mid season, and has medium acidity, thin skin.
Trophy
These 5-7 ounce tomatoes were introduced in 1870 by Colonel George E. Waring Jr. from Rhode Island. Each pack of trophy tomato seeds was sold for five dollars, 80 today, to gardeners who wanted the 100 dollar fair prize. Trophy tomatoes are great for slicing.
Large Tomatoes
Cherokee Purple
Cherokee Purple tomatoes are a deep, dusky purple-pink color. They have a sweet flavor and are 12 to 16 ounces.
Crnkovic Yugoslavian
This variety of tomatoes were brought to the US by Yasha Cmkovic, a colleague of SSE member Carolyn Male. Cmkovic Yugoslavian's fruit grow up to a pound and they are a pink beefsteak that rarely crack with a full tomato flavor.
Prudens Purple
Prudens Purple tomatoes are large beefsteak tomatoes that aren't purple but more of a pinkish-red. These tomatoes have a sweet and tangy heirloom flavor.
